Richard Spencer
Photographer

My interest in photography started when I was in the 8th grade taking images for the school yearbook. By the time I was in the high school I was working for the local newspaper. At the same time I was shooting Rock & Roll Bands in Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky for a talent agency.

I've been a staff photographer for the University since 1971. My photo work at UCF has taken me from campus high tech laser labs to the depth of the jungles of Belize in Central America as a member of an international research team at the Mayan Archeology site Caracol.

For my work as a photographer outside of UCF I have worked for United Press International covering NASCAR races, Miss Florida productions, and photographing press events like the shuttle launches, Disney events, and Daytona Bike week for various northern publications. I have also won several awards at local art festivals with my photographic images. However, the highlight of my photographic experiences was to have the honor to exhibit my images with Ansel Adams in a Winter Park Gallery and meeting this master photographer in person.

I am looking forward to continuing to be of service to this fine University until I retire with 40 years of service. In my retirement I hope to spend time in Belize visiting friends and trying to get a very large fish hooked up on line.
