Tutorials: Photoshop Keyboard Shortcuts

The following is a list of common keyboard shortcuts for Photoshop 7. Remember, we're Mac users so the shortcuts are Mac shortcuts. However, PC users can click CONTROL instead of COMMAND to get the same function, unless otherwise noted.

Basic Computer Functions:

  • Rotate Applications: Command-Tab
  • Rotate Open Docs: Control-Tab

Basic Photoshop Functions:

  • History Backwards: Option-Command-Z
  • Zoom In: Command + (plus)
  • Zoom Out: Command – (minus)
  • Fit To Screen: Command-0 (zero)

Layers:

  • Change Layer Order: Command-[ or Command-]
  • New Layer: Shift-Command-Option-N
  • Duplicate Layer: Command-J
  • New Layer Under Picked Layer: Command-Click New Layer (in Layer Window)
  • Lock Overlay: Forward Slash ( / )

Fill:

  • Fill with Forground: Option-Delete
  • Fill with Background: Command-Delete
  • History Fill: Option-Command-Delete (Mac); Shift-Control-ALT-Delete (PC)
  • Open Fill Dialogue: Shift-Delete

Brushes:

  • Bigger/Smaller: [ or ]
  • Harder/Softer: Right Shift/Left Shift

Masks:

  • Toggle On/Off: Shift-Click
  • View Mask: Option-Click

Filters:

  • Greater Filter Intensity: Hold Option for while clicking on the filter

Miscellaneous:

  • Zoom to fit Transform Box: Command-O (the letter "O")
  • Override Snaps: Hold Command with move tool
